Hey guys, I am experienced knife maker but I beed some help I have made a knife (it is finished with a Brazilian Rosewood CA finished handle Photo below) but I can't sharpen it because it is too thick all the way from the spine down to the edge It is a small EDC, the blade is 4 3/8" long and only 9/16" tall and 3/16" thick Here is the problem, I can't free hand grind and I don't have the equipment to hollow grind and I think this knife needs a hollow grind to be effecient and effective Therefore I need someone to free hand hollow grind this knife and finish and sharpen the blade for me Any takers? I'll pay for the service Thanks,

Wallace

Good looking knife - that rosewood handle really pops. Have you considered a full flat grind? What metal did you use?

The metal is CPM-154 Stainless Steel Because the handle is on a full flat grind would require a free hand grind and I'm not up to that Thanks,

Wallace

Come on you guys, I know there is someone outthere who can help me out. Please, somebody step up. Thanks,

Wallace

Wallace, I would be more than happy to help "IF" I felt comfortable in my skills (no charge of course). My thought would be a FFG which I normally use and don't see any reason it wouldn't sharpen with that. 3/16"is a pretty thick blade for a small knife like that. Any idea what Rc the blade is?

"IF" you wish to chat more my email is sailingtoo at the gmail place.

Thanks for the reply, Ken, I'm not familiar with the term FFG. The blade was professionally heat treated by Texas Knife Supply so it should be upper 50's or lower 60's

FFG - Full Flat Grind where the bevel is flat from the cutting edge to the spine. Normally take edge down to .010" or so for a EDC, then sharpen from there. For a fine cutting kitchen knife might even take the edge down to .004" or so, almost to a sharp edge before final sharpening.

BTW, did you get my email from the above post?

I did. I'm sending you an email right now. Couldn't make it work. my email is wmhammond@earthlink.net

I sent you an email and it bounced back as spam or something. You might try me again and see what happens

I got your email this afternoon, sent a reply but again it bounced back as spam. Have you not ok'd my email addy yet?

Well, it looks like you can send emails to me, but I can't send to you, unless my emails go to your spam folder. I'll look forward to getting a tracking number so I'll have an idea when to expect the package. I'll turn it around in a couple (or 3) days back to you.

Just curious, why is there a brass pin in the Ricasso?

MT Bob it was originally designed to be a 3 pin knife. Handle material was too short so noe it is a 3 pin knife. LOL

Ken: I'm interested in seeing photos of how your re-grind worked out. Looks like it could be challenging.

Bob, I didn't get any good photos of the blade after I sharpened that shows the bevel very well at all. I didn't do any "re-shaping" at all - just a sharpening following the original bevel. We'll let Wallace chime in once he gets the knife back. USPS shows Sat as planned delivery.
