I always chuckled when I heard another maker saying "this one fought me all the way", but now I've joined that select group. I made this Scottish dirk for a kilt wearing friend and although the blade came out alright, I had to make four handles before I got one I could live with.

O1, maple and german silver with a 12" blade and about 18.25" oal.

As one of the founding members of FMATW (Fight Me All The Way) club, - welcome. Way to hang with it, that dirk looks awesome!

I am a charter member of the FMATW club myself. When something starts going easy I get real paranoid.

Don't feel bad about the 4 handles, the dagger I'm working on now is on it's 4th too. The 3rd one turned out perfect, but shrank onto the tang and split while I had it set aside:2:

The good part is that you get lots of practice making handles at the rate of 4 per knife...you already know the bad part but it looks like it was worth the effort in the end!
