Hello from Vicksburg MS , I am retired Dentist and been making knives since 2007. It is strictly a hobby I don't try very hard to sell my knives but do
sell 10 - 12 around Christmas and probably make 2-3 a month and have given away probably too many. I use some Damascus and several of the high chromium alloys. Just started my own heat treating with an Evenheat oven.
 
Welcome to KD! There are quite a few of us retirees here making knives, you will feel right at home. Post some of yours, we would like to see them.

With your skills as a Dentist you may want to take up engraving and other embellishments for your knives?
Thats adds a lot in value. Wish I had the steadiness for it.
