The forum has 3 ways to view threads. Linear, Threaded and Hybrid.
Most should use Linear and it is the forum default. Still, some might like to view a thread using the old 'newsgroup' style.
Basically Linear shows all the message posted in time stamp order.
Threaded and Hybrid show a thread tree and displays one message at a time. The difference between Threaded and Hybrid is so small it's not worth discussing.
at the upper right of a thread when viewing you will see 'display' with an down arrow.

You have 3 choices of forum display

This is Hybrid. Threaded looks just like it. You will see message threads follow replies to each post. We use the Quick Answer box here and that tends to jumble things up with Threaded and Hybrid modes. You can see one message at a time via these modes.

Linear mode shows all the messages at once (as many as a page will hold anyway) and are posted by time stamp. Since this isn't rocket science, following exactly who responded to exactly which post in a thread isn't all that important. We suggest Linear display mode but some my prefer the other methods also.
