Making a Wa

In my effort to not re-invent the wheel what size block do you guys start with when making a Japanese Wa style handle?

Ok...I take this to mean no one is currently making WA handles so as I go I will make it a WIP and we will find out together

WA handles are typically longer than standard handles, you will need a block that is at least 5 inches. Most wa handles have either a spacer or a bolster of a different material to give you that length.

Also just to add, you will want to start with a 1 inch square block, when shaping you will want to taper thinner in the front to thicker in the back. This handle shape should fit any size hands comfortably

For a shorter knife maybe 4-4.5 inch cutting edge are the WA handles shorter or do they stick in the 5inch range?
