Mammoth for a Father and Son

My brother (Michael) is getting married next summer to a wonderful woman who was raised by a great family. My brother thought it would be nice to get his future father-in-law and brother-in-law a special Christmas gift. What do you get two guys who have everything... custom knives of course. They are both outdoors men who have a passion for elk hunting and classy things. Michael wanted something special for the handles and after a bunch of google searching and pondering, we decided to go with mammoth. The dad is old school and mammoth bark ivory seemed to fit him best and the son is somewhat of a free spirit so mammoth tooth was chosen for his. It was an honor to be able to make these knives and work with this material. A little nerve rattling but all worth it in the end. The last few nights have been sleepless as I was rushing to get these done. Finished them up this morning and dropped them off to my brother 10 minutes later. Can't wait to hear what they think about them. Michael was blown away, to say the least. That was my Christmas present; seeing his reaction when I dropped them off.

Big Game Hunter #1

- 5/32" CPM 154 stainless steel
- OAL: 9.0"
- Blade Length: 4.25"
- Mammoth Bark Ivory Handle
- Copper Liners
- 3/16" Copper Pins
- Ranch logo etched into bevel

Sheath:
- 8/10 oz. Hermann Oak leather sheath, dyed dark brown
- Split-toe design
- Arrowhead basket weave tooling
- Brown stitching

- Black G10 liners
- 3/16" Carbon Fiber Pins
- "Lightning Elk" etched into bevel

Sheath:
- 8/10 oz. Hermann Oak leather sheath, dyed black
- Split-toe design
- Arrowhead basket weave tooling
- Black stitching

A few things I wish I would have done differently; polish up the blade and flats on the ivory one better, use a thin piece of stainless liner in between the tooth and G10, and most importantly done a better job on etching the words and my mark. I really need to sit down and experiment to come up with a nice clean etch. It is driving me nuts!
 
Awesome job on both knives! I don't see a flaw one and I went back and looked. The sheaths are spectacular as well. Go get some well deserved sleep!!
 
Beautifully done. Very clean. What kind of feedback have you received from the new owners? Sheaths look great. I've tried that arrowhead pattern and it isn't so easy. They look very well done also.

Thank you, Bowman! I did get feedback on the ivory one and it was very flattering. Said he has been collecting knives for most of his life (he is in his 80's) but has never seen one built this good. My brother said he flipped out when he opened it. Couldn't be happier about that. The tooth should be arriving at its destination soon. He lives in New Mexico.

This was my second and third attempt at the arrowhead pattern and the third one came out pretty good. There are a few funky arrows in there but not very noticeable.

I appreciate your compliments.
