So, here is my first attempt at knife making. Was toying with the idea of making a skinning knife to go along with the muzzle loader hunt. ( meaning here in Colorado it is a primitive weapon hunt, no scopes, no pelletized powder) so I took a "stab" at making a primitive camp/ hunting knife and this is how it turned out.
So would I do things differently.... yep I have all ready started 2 more and i am learning and having fun. Oh ya, forgot to mention I made the sheaths as well...
made out of 3/32 O1 starrett tool steel
used a coal fired forge to heat treat
my kitchen oven to temper (don't tell my wife)
the wood is bazillion walnut or IPEA wood (scrap from the father in laws porch)
the final edge was done by hand, on a stone...not sure if I like it
