Finally it is sufficiently finished and sharpened that I am comfortable to call it a knife. After all is said and done, I have mixed feelings about it, but it is my first knife and it done.
The blade sharpened nicely. I am happy with the thinness of the blade at the edge. I was concerned that it may be too thick, but it is not. I hand finished the blade to an 800 grit, but try as I might, it would develop rusty marks within a short period of time. I then decided to treat the blade with vinigar to give it a greyish patina and left it at that. It is going to be tested and worked, so it is going to develop a patina anyway.
