I think that you have run into the typical problem that occures when you ask knife makers about a particular steel. Often you will run into contradictory advice. To make it worse, both points of view could be right. You're just going to have to use it and see what you think. You can even run into problems with the 10XX series of steels. Each steel has it's limitations; the solution to the problem is to learn to work with them.
