Opening a hot oven

Ok I’ve only had my even heat up to 400 degrees but getting ready to heat it up to 1500 degrees. Other than having gloves, long thongs and protective eye wear is there anything else I need to know or take precautions?
Don’t want to cook my lungs or eyeballs.
Safety and precaution advise appreciated!!

i wear welders gloves and have a fan blowing toward my back. walk thru putting blade in hot furnace and taking blade out to quench when everything is cold, this helps you find best spot for locating furnace and quench tank. i usually crack the door open for a second or so before opening all the way. you should not have bad stuff exiting furnace if all that is in there is you blade.

Ok. Thanks! Don’t know why I just started getting nervous so I thought I’d ask advise!

Don't leave it open at high temp any longer than you have to have it open. It is hard on the elements.
I have an Evenheat. When I open the door, I use the door itself to help shield from the heat.

I only use a pair of welders gloves and a long pair of slip joint pliers (probably only about 12" long at most).

Keep in mind that any quench oil on your tongs/pliers or even your gloves (if they get close enough) will ignite. Not the end of the world, but just something to be aware of.

I try to make things as quick as I can (while being safe and controlled) so as not to let things heat up more than necessary.

That's what I use, welders gloves and long slip joint pliers....or as some of the old folks call them 'water pump pliers, ha ha.
The only advice I could add is have everything planned out. pay attention to the task at hand and don't do any delays following thru to the quench, don't fumble closing the door or mess with the latch, as your oven is cycling on and off pull the blade out at the high temp....your set point. pull your blade out with a GOOD grip on those pliers and bump the door closed.
