platen upgrades

will glazed bathroom tile work as a ceramic platen? porcelain is heat treated at over 2500F so it should have the temperature resistance. i am upgrading a basic sears 4x36 belt sander, so I dont want to spend more on a platen than I did for the sander.

Thats a good question. Im not sure of the answer but it would seem to me that the ceramic tile is a little more fragile than the glass platen I bought. Looking forward to seeing opinions on this. I have lots of tile.

It should work fine as long as it was a High fire glaze.
Even if it wears a bit more quickly? Just replace it more often.
Tile is cheap and even free sometimes!

My platen has worked with a ceramic tile for two years at least, no problems.
