scratches on the face of the guard

How do you get rid of the scratches on the face of the guard after it has been pinned and soldered.
I made the mistake of trying to just clean up that little bit of a mark that I made on the face of the guard getting the solder off. Now I have a fine network of light scratches all over the face of the guard and no matter how I try sanding them they will not go away. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't do that...
My advice is to tape the blade, then use sandpaper with a stiff backing to sand the area, checking for wear on the tape often... keep going up in grits til you're happy with it. I'd go for a nice satin finish myself.... expect it to take awhile.

I know that Don Hanson will wrap a piece of sand paper around a razor blade so he can get right in tight to the seam of the guard/blade.
