shop uses for these motors?

I found 4 of the following Baldor motors for $75 (total, not each). I'll have difficulty using one on my grinder with a VFD (the shaft size and bolt configuration is different, not to mention that 5hp is a bit of overkill), but I'm wondering if there is anything else in my shop I could use them for. I don't have 3 phase power, but I could run them with a VFD in theory. I'm interested to hear ideas.

Most VFDs that will run a 5 hp motor are 3 phase in 3 phase out. Sorry!

the sticker shock of a single to three phase vfd or controller or converter will make you swallow your cud. found one here http://www.precision-elec.com/onlin...3-hp-m1230sb-lenze-ac-motor-speed-controller/ . after shipping, it will be about $600. GRIZZLY has a static converter for $200, but it will only give you 70% output.

The statick converter will not give you the variable speed. My VFD is $448.00,,,,compaired to $600.00?

I would go for the Moe VFD $448.00 At that price you could run your Grinder with a 5hp.
It would never cough or burp or even get hot!

With the $448.00 KBAC 27D you can run up to a 2 hp motor, with the KBAC 29 (1) up to 3 hp with single phase in. Anything bigger requires 3 phase in.
