hi,
there seems to some steel we just can't get over here, at least in small quantities. our friends on the east side of the pond have steel available that is equal to or better than the Hitachi stuff, that we cant buy either. Here are some sources that carry 1.2519[about equal to aogami bluepapersteel(which you can find here http://www.mehr-als-werkzeug.de/product/719605/Blue-Paper-Steel-from-Japan-1000-x-10-x-3-mm.htm) and 1.2842 or O2.

the sites are in german, but if you use google chrome browser, it will translate for you. if not, stahl is steel, the grades are DIN, the price is in euros. if you click on a steel, it will have a list of steel makeup(C is carbon whether in US or germany) these places are knife making supply stores, so they have other stuff besides steel.
as i said in a different thread, why should our brothers east and west of us, be the only ones with high carbon and or high tungsten, high purity tool steel to use for knives.
i have a couple more places to look at, will post links once i have more info

i listed a link that sells Aogami Blue paper steel. it is similar to the 1.2519, but the 1.2519 has a little more chrome and some vanadium. I just received some 1.2519 from germany and will cut some blanks tonite.

Just thought I would mention, I checked up on the der-klein-messerladen and also the nordisches-handwerk websites and I don't think either of them ship to the USA. When you go to purchase a product, the drop down list of countries you can choose from are all in Europe. I've sent them an email asking if they will ship to the states and will post their reply once (if) I get it. Thanks Scott!!!!!!

OK, just received an email from der-kleine-messerladen.de and they said they WILL ship to the U.S. I replied with the dimensions I need (5x50x300) to see what the total cost with shipping will be for two bars.

Concerning the Blue Paper steel from mehr-als-werkzeug, the dimensions are strange. 3mm x 10mm x 1000mm. What could anyone do with that besides maybe forge it out into a more usable size? You'd have to fold it in half and hammer it out.

stuart:
most japanese makers who use this steel would use the 3/8" wide strip as the cutting edge, the rest of the knife being wrought iron or stainless like 304. if you look at a website that carries japanese blades you will usually see the words San-mai or Warikomi, this is style in which the blade is clad. see http://www.zknives.com/knives/articles/jpnknifecladtypes.shtml for more info.
i haven't done full check out of all these sources i listed. did that post from the office where we dont have built in translation program.

found another vendor, one recommended by Roman Landes.
Achim Wirtz
E-Mail: wootz@web.de
he does not have a website but has a reasonable selection. He will ship to USA as long as total value is less than 1500euros. He has O2 and 80CrV2 at reasonable prices. His prize is 1.2442, 115CrW8; 1.15% Carbon and 2% Tungsten.
if you are interested, send me a PM and I will send you his current inventory and pricing.
