IG what Foodsaver are you using? I can not seem to find any that will work on a jar. Also is this stuff the same that you used on the small horns you did?

This is what I use. I have hooked up to a industrial vacuum pump.

For the female springbok horn I use this.

I fill the horn with resin and put it into the canister. In the bottom I place 2" of sand to hold the horn in the proper position.;)

I forgot to add. That on the lid of the jar I apply Vaseline. This stop the lid from sticking and you don't have to release the vacuum when reapplying the vacuum. You have to reapply the vacuum until the wood sinks.ride safe

Anyone heard of a recipe where you apply pressure to the vessel holding the liquid after a vacuum has been pulled and allowed to sit for several days? Dont know why this is stuck in my head, but to me it seems that you would not really be gaining anything. IG have you cut your wood in half after this treatment? Im just curious as to what % penetration you are getting. Also I have a A/C unit vacuum pump purchased just for this under my bench. Is there a danger using glass containers??

God Bless

I went ahead and did a setup after Chris Crawford's design, I could only get my pump to ~22 in Hg but she bubbled for 2 hours straight... Left it in overnight and she's drying right now... I should have marked the volume before and after but there is quite obviously a decrease in hardener volume. Not sure how volatile it is (can't be that much, is it?) especially under a vacuum so I would imagine that most of the volume decrease is due to penetration. Dunno, we'll see!

Yes, I am getting full penetration. I have only broken one jar since I have been doing it this way and it wasn't from pulling a vacuum. I leave it in the jars till it sinks. This may take weeks, then I'll put them in a toast oven @ 120 to cure them. Feel free to call me if you want more info cell 508 951 27192thumbs

How about this for a vacume? Can the wood in canning jars and solution, just like canning veggies? You could then just shelve the canned wood until you decide the time is right to open the jars, releasing the vacume and then removing the wood to dry?
