Straight from the Quench--Using a pattern makers vise.

The 12 inch long 2x4 jaws are lined with aluminum sheet. The heads rotate and adapt to the taper of the blade being straightened. I like to get the blade to the vise at around 700fh. or so.

The jaws can be shimmed on the other axis to conform to wider blades.

I can see where that would be extremely handy for a few different operations, and it looks like something I could make rather quickly... thanks for posting it.

Thats a COOL vise Fred !

I've been clamping my blades out of the quench too. Really seems to work well even with my much cruder set-up.

Insurance against warp is how I think of it.

Thanks for sharing your set-up !

Aw, Fred!

Now you've got all of us running out to find a hard-to-find and expensive vise!

I used to have a patternmaker's vise; traded it years ago for a set of band wheels.
Been looking for a reasonable replacement ever since.

Thanks for sharing the idea.
