Straight razor question

So I have been asked to make a straight razor. I was wondering what you guys aim for edge thickness before sharpening?

A straight razor needs a spine thickness to blade height ratio of around 1:4. The angle created then is about 14 total....just right. The edge thickness itself basically needs to be "zero", before sharpening. The "meat" that will support that edge is the bevel itself, created by the geometry of the razor. Stay between 1:4.2 and 1:3.7.

Thanks for the information. I just have to grind the edge to nothing without burning it, sure sounds easy.

Samuraistuart is right. Thank you for the 1:4 ratio hint :)
Of course you'll need coolant and taking it slowly. The closer to zero, the less visible bevel on the edge...it's nicer
