Last year i made the little brother of this guy. Went a bit "fancy" and gave it some tiger stripe intaglio etching using the gun blue and bleach method.

Just need to put on the turks head and seal the handle.
 
That's a gnarly lookin chopper. I'm intrigued, can you explain gun blue and bleach patina? It is a very handsome aging pattern.
 
The gun blue and bleach causes rapid oxidation like an acid etch would but instead your using a base to build that rust layer on the outside of the knife. Guys like Chuck Burrows uses it on his frontier style blades but i don't think he soaks as long as i do. I used a pure bleach solution for 3 hours to build an intaglio effect.
 
Thanks Tobin, but where does the gun blue come in? Do you use it as a resist to the bleach? So that wherever the blue is the bleach is stopped??
 
The gun blue works as a rapid oxidizer when it comes in contact with the bleach. For a resist i use either clear nail polish, oil, or a sharpie.
