Tightening a loose sheath?

Dennis Morland

KNIFE MAKER
Does anyone have a trick or two on tightening a loose sheath... Wickett and Craig leather with lacing?

It is not extremely loose. I just want it to be a wee bit snugger.

Is it possible? Hints or tips?

Thank you in advance.

It might be tough with all the tooling and the lacing. Sometimes you can wet a sheath well with hot water, then let it air dry, and it will shrink a bit. I always wet form each sheath to the knife, and in order to keep from messing up tooling or other decoration, I do that once the sheath is finished/dried. It might just be a situation of changing when you do each step.

You may be able to slide a thin piece of suede with glue on it down into the sheath using popsicle sticks to smooth it out and pressed into place real good.
if you can get down a inch or so it shouldn't really be noticeable.

Those are nice looking sheaths, Dennis. I'm glad you figured the tightening thing out.

Me too! I did not want to make two more. I did not get the welt in the right place and they just were not tight enough for my satisfaction. A well placed patch and issue was resolved. Steve is the man!
