Von Gruff KITH WIP 2.0

Von Gruff

KNIFE MAKER
I have had to put the intended KITH safari knife asside as there was a flaw that developed from a split out when I drilled one of the pin holes and while I filled it there is a visual that I can not except so have cut out another blade this afternoon. Bit if a shame as the matai was a lovely piece of wood and unfortunately it was the ony piece that I had after using the second smaller piece on my mini skinner.

Well it’s bound to happen from time to time. Amazing how everything can be falling right in line and then ‘bam’. But i’m finding out that’s what makes knife making so annoyingly enjoyable. ;)

That is definitely one of those things that makes handmade craftsmanship have a heart and soul or blood, sweat, and tears a part of the final product. Hours and hours of work in the scrap box has lead the way on many of my blades as well. I’m sure your new KITH will be cherished by anyone.

So have got this one done and while we are never fully satisfied with any knife we make at least this one is respectable enough for the KITH event.
With the blade ground the bolsters were put on and as per usual there was no pic of them but it was only a repeat of the first one so the first pic is of the handles complete
Second from the right is the knife in question, with them all having the handles profiled in the horizontal via the 2x72.
Buffalo horn and zebrawood which is apopriate for the Safari Knife

Next step is to profile them vertically on the bandsaw

Not much more to show untill it is finished and today I went looking for a decent backdrop to get a pic. Not the best but enough to show it in a better light than on a plain background.

Not a complicated multi page WIP like some of you have done but my knives are more simple in presentation so this is all there is to show. Will get a sheath made for it and again nothing fancy for a plain hard working knife.
