So, after buying some new steel and equipment, I've decided that a checkering file is essential to my shop... any suggestions on where to find the best tool at the best price? Thanks fellow knife canines.

Thanks guys, those are two good sources. Some one did shoot me an email with a link they didn't want to post here (not sure why) with an extremely affordable source.

Lol
I want that source!

Ive looked around for a while all the ones i find are around $60
Or if i remember correctly those where the 40/inch, the 20 were slightly cheaper?

Grobet files are the best I have found. They make a 20 lpi for use with on steel. The West Coast supplier is b2b. Phone is (760) 322-6037. Ask for Tom. It's called a Pillar Checkering File. They also make a Knife File for jimping.

The day didn't allow for an opportunity to call today, so I must ask... Do you know the LPI of their jimping file?

Get a 20 lpi. Can't get one any bigger as no one makes them! Like I stated above, I wish someone made a 10 lpi.

I agree - I would jump on a 10 lpi but Grobet quit making them. I think 20 lpi is all they make, but Tom at b2b will know.

That is a cool idea Eric. I think I can get a thread restorer file local. If I can get one I will post some results

Genious? There is a word you will never hear my wife say when referring to me.
In all honesty guys, this was just a measured guess. Please, someone post results so we can inform the masses.

I have the thread cleaning file at work I tried it, it does work sort of but not near as good as a cherckering file, the checkering file dont always cut as deep as needed but the thread repair file doesnt cut deep at all, but it is better than nothing
