Hi, Ed, I love your guards! If I may ask, do you use a small wheel attachment, file? I can’t figure it out, but I like the look! These are beautiful knives as always by the way.
Hey Kevin! The first "trick" is using thicker guard material....at least 3/8" thick. Then I use a 3/4" contact wheel to get the contour. I also rotate the knife while grinding with the 3/4" wheel..... that makes everything flow and just feel better in the end product.

Thanks, Ed! So I all I need is the feather touch magic hands of a master. Lol! Seriously though I do know what you mean. I’m wondering if a HF oscillating sander work in place of the small wheel attachment and 3/4” small wheel?

Edit: I’m assuming that you can turn off the oscillation?

Not sure about that one.....I mean the oscillating sander. I've always found that those kind of tools are built for very light duty. Give it a go! In the past I've used a round rasp/file, and it works, but it also will work YOU to death! :)

Hey Ed not to change the subject but how you liking your new sewing machine??
OH MAN!! I did ALL of those sheaths, from cutting out to having sewn and wet formed in ONE DAY!! Before the sewing machine, each of those sheaths would have taken 2-3 HOURS each, to prep and stitch by hand...... now each is only minutes to sew.

The one thing that I have found with the sewing machine is that if you don't test run and adjust it BEFORE you start on a sheath, you WILL have issues. Often it's something small like missing stitch or getting a loop on the back side, but those are still things that require correction, and cause a lot of frustration. That being said, I wish I would have made the investment years ago.

Ivan. You probably need to contact him on his web site. FYI, the first three knives are carbon steel. 52100 steel

Ed has a good website and you can find him on facebook. if you are looking for carbon steel knives in general there are many makers here.
