    Basic Hunter

It's a bit intimidating to post my work compared to other stuff I see on this site, but here goes anyway. 8.5" overall 1095 HC 5/32" thick. 4" cutting edge. Double etched. Handles are Cocobolo with stainless pins. Leather sheath is my work as well. This is roughly my 35th knife, learn more...

    Skinner

A mighty fine combo. Did you treat/finish the antler with anything to get that great amber color?

    Oh look a chisel!

There is a great video on John Neeman tools where they make a framing stick with a socket. I'm still learning but seems like a good approach.

    Borax as Anti scale powder

I came across a cheaper method of anti-scale powder and wanted to see if anybody had tried this or knows if it is a bad idea (and why). So far it has worked with 1095 and 01 I use 20 Mule Team Borax as an anti-scale powder but not straight out of the box. The problem with normal borax is it...

    Question on straightening blades

Learning curve? I heated both blades up to 425 (they were tempered at 500) and tried to get them straight, just kept turning up the pressure until Eureka! I straightened one but was surprised on how much over bending I had to do and the force it took. So then I grab the second blade with a bend...

    Question on straightening blades

I just noticed that two of four small O1 blades I'm working on are quite warped now that I have them polished up to 600 grit. Thanks for the suggestions I was thinking they were simply gone. I'll bring them back up to temper and try the shim and clamp method. They are thin 1/8" blades.

    Cryo in Alaska

No, its not cold enough to cryo treat outside in Alaska right now, but in November it was -64 F in Tok without windchill. I'm a hobbyist knife maker with maybe 20 knives finished so far. My friend got deployed and said "It would be cool to have a knife that was made just for you to carry." I...
