Neck knife with a leather handle scales

Thought I'd post a Neck knife I made from old Nickleson File. I did an experiment with some 8-10 ounce leather and made some scales. I used Gorilla Glue and layered 3 pieces together . I then wrapped & clamped the leather between two two boards . I let it set for over 24 hours. When I unwrapped...

    Leather as scales ?

I was watching the program "How it's Made" . They were showing how they make "Heather Gems" in Scotland. Basically it just like making micarta. I figured I could do the same with anything I wanted to use for scales, as long as it is soft and pliable. I guess I'll give it a try and see what happens.

    Heat treat question

I do normalize before cutting and shaping the knife blank. I had made one other knife from the same file and had no problem. I ground down the area prior to soaking @ 420 degrees. The area were it broke off was very dull in color, no grain, that I could see.
