    Warped Scales

Well, it sounds like you are getting to the root of the problem. I had assumed you were sanding under power. I see that mistake often in my new students and apprentices. You have an analytical mind and you will do good. I'm sure the all-at-once construction will solve the problem. Good luck...

    FIF like or not thread

Hey Kev, sorry to not get back to you right away it's been crazy busy around here. Thanks for the nice words. They keep everything with just a few exceptions. Starting on season four they started to let the runner up keep the weapon from the finally. Also, there's been a couple of new...

    Warped Scales

I suspect the problem you are having is not from gluing, it's from sanding. When you sand something it starts to heat up from friction. Since you are sanding only on one side it is expanding on one side and causing the material to warp as you sand. You are, in a sense grinding a hollow into your...

    Well This Is Weird

I get light grey flecks under the black quite often, to me it looks perfect. That's when I know I've done everything right. But I never soak for fifteen minutes. That's a recommendation for steel parts in general (I suspect) not for thin knife blades. We only soak that long or longer to get good...

    Newbie buffing question

Here's what I do; get the handle sanded to 400 grit, rub with wood finishing oil similar to teak oil or tung oil. Let that cure. (your wood sealer would work too) give it a good coat of Minwax paste wax and then buff.

Thanks everybody. The knives were a big hit and my customer has made another order for next Christmas. Liner lock folders this time. I hope everybody had a great Christmas and I wish everyone a safe and happy new year.

    100 knives for Christmas.

Thanks everybody. Yes, we took the order for these knives just after Christmas last year, it's been a year-long build. I have five fish houses, two structural and three portables. There will be fishing (and maybe some napping).

    100 knives for Christmas.

Thanks, guys. I have no finger prints, I have nicks all over my hands and my thumb and fingertips are sore, but the knives are all done. Time for a few days off for ice fishing.

This is what I've been up to. Fifty hunter/skinner sets. 100 knives total. My biggest single order to date. A customer of mine gives them to his customers for Christmas.

Much, much better. Way to go. I'm also impressed with how well you can take suggestions from other people. Some people have trouble with that.

    Stocking up

These are for a 100 knife order for a customer, the extras will be sold in our store as completed knives. I hadn't considered selling any as blanks but I suppose I could. I'd need to figure out how much time I had in them individually. The steel is 154 CM. This material does go through the...
