    New flipper progress pics

Since I'm new here, I wasn't really sure where to put this but, I felt like this was the best place. This is really not going to be a WIP; just some progress pics and some photos of the finished knife when I get there. I've been carrying around my third folder in my pocket for about three...

    Handle Liners

I use G10 and vulcanized fiber liners. I usually glue it up when I install the scales. If I'm doing a stack of multiple liner colors, I will glue it up and attach to the scale material in advance. On the photo I've attached, I had to glue up the liner stack first, then bevel the pieces to get a...

    Baldor 1/4HP 1800 rpm buffer adequate ?

I thought I would throw this link up just in case anyone is looking for options on buffers. This is a 2-speed unit sold by TP Tools under their brand name. (Buffer Link) Baldor also makes a 2-speed unit but it costs about twice as much; TP Tools sells it as well. I am really thinking about...

Girls Tactical EDC w/ Pink & Black DewCarta

I will try to put up a few more pics. I hate posting cell phone pics but, dragging out all my photo gear has not been an option lately. The bolsters are 416 and were pinned and shaped before coating. I use G/flex epoxy to attach my scales and it can be cleaned up with denatured alcohol. I just...

Girls Tactical EDC w/ Pink & Black DewCarta

I finished this yesterday. Had not worked with DewCarta before but it was the right color for the project so I gave it a try. I found it to be very similar to sandblasted canvas micarta but, without blasting it. It does not get a super smooth finish unless you apply a top coat. I experimented...

    Stabilization at home??

At Johnny Stout's last Hammer-In, I sat through a class presented by Curtis Seebeck of Cactus Juice. I was under the impression that if it wasn't professionally stabilized by a company like K&G or WSSI, it would be garbage. I have totally changed my opinion on that. A high quality stabilizing...

    Baldor 1/4HP 1800 rpm buffer adequate ?

I have two buffers; a 3/4hp Baldor 3600rpm and a 1/2hp 3450rpm. They are each set up very differently. The baldor runs 6-8" sewn wheels and is fast, powerful, and certainly a bit dangerous. I use it mainly for polishing out bolsters and guards. I would prefer to swap it out for a 1800rpm unit if...

    Sharpie equilivant for marking wood?

They are similar to the welders pencils but are not high heat. They are just colored pencils. I think I buy them in packs of two. Bob

    Sharpie equilivant for marking wood?

Depending on the color of the wood, I use either a regular #2 pencil (lighter woods) or a silver pencil (darker woods). You can find the silver pencils at any office supply store. They also work well for marking on black synthetic materials such as G10 and Carbon Fiber. Bob

    I'm getting worried.

I got really sick right before the recall was announced. I'm feeling well enough now that I'm willing to risk the 3/4 carton I have left in the freezer. What's the worst that could happen?? Bob

    Blackwood Tactical

Just finished this one today. It has an interesting story to it. It was ordered by a guy who came through Infantry Basic Training when I was a Drill Sergeant in late 1999/early 2000. He wasn't in my platoon but I was one of the lead instructors for the company so, everybody got to know who I...

    Grinder Light

I do not find one light at the grinder to be sufficient. I need light from multiple angles so as I switch side to side or change my body position, I can still clearly see my scribed line. I use these: http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INSRIT?PARTPG=INLMKD&PMPXNO=951927&PMAKA=625-0266 Bob

    Waiting between quenching and tempering

I think you have more latitude with the stainless steels than with carbon steels. My HT oven takes forever to cool down to drawing temp. Because of this, I have often left 440C and S35VN blades to be tempered the next day and I've never had a problem. I just recently started into using W2 and...

Gonna build first liner lock or frame lock need help with parts

The linerlock will be easier since the Ti will be thinner but you'll have to figure out the scales as an extra step. Do not drill your pivot hole with a 3/16" drill; drill it with an undersize and ream to final size. I use a #15. I also recommend using the same technique for your stop pin holes...

    Who's using Kirinite?

Heat will definitely shrink Kirinite. I am doing a knife for Raj right now and while rough shaping the bolsters/scales I let the 416 bolsters get pretty warm. They did not get hot enough to burn the G/flex but they were definitely warm. When I came off the flat platen at 120 grit I should have...

New to Knife Dogs - Here's some of my recent work

Thanks for the kind words guys. There are a lot of really fantastic makers hanging out here on Knife Dogs and I look forward to learning from all of you. I also really appreciate the kudos from the collectors. I may be a new maker but, I've figured out that you can learn a lot from experienced...
