    Sheath or no sheath

Do you sell your knives with or without sheaths. I dont have time to start trying to make sheaths for my knives right now so I took one over to a guy that does great leather work. He wants $50.00 for a pouch style friction sheath. I dont think this is unreasonable at all because I know the...

    Second knife done

Well I got number two done. Definitly some improvement and I'm much happier with this one. However, I've got to take more time on sanding for my mirror finish. I ended up with some scratches still left in the blade and bolsters. I built a pin press from Boss's plans and I thought the bolsters...

heat treating and tempering 1084 for beginner

I think thats what I was looking for Doug. Yes, I was referring to leaving the blades in the oven while it cooled down to room temp as compared to removing the bladesfrom the oven after the soak time to room temp and allowing to cool that way. Thanks Doug

heat treating and tempering 1084 for beginner

A quick follow up question on this subject if you all dont mind. After the tempering cycles, do you take the steel out and cool outside of the oven or keep it in the oven and allow it to reach room temp with the oven? Does it make a difference and what difference does it make if so? Thanks

    Other stainless options

While reading the thread started about stainless steels by the weatherman, I two questions of my own that Ive been wondering about. I didnt want to hijack his thread so here goes. 1. Is there a stainless that I can easily heat treat at home in my Evenheat kiln? 2. Do all stainless steels need...

My first knife and Kirinite handles

Shame, no way. Embarassed a bit about the quality, yeah, Ive got to own that one but I dont want it to sound like a pity party. I know they will get better with experience. The main point was it was a fun project and like I said, I really learned a bunch. As far as the Kirinite, I dont have a...

My first knife and Kirinite handles

Well, where do I begin with this. First off I'm a little embarresed to post pictures of this knife. The only reason I am posting pics is because in a year I hope to compare the difference in my knives and also because I won the Kirinite handles from the drawing and I promised to post pics of...

To the person that broke into my son's storage unit (Rant)

That is rotten and I'm sorry to hear about it. I've had to vent like that before myself. I was working at the Firehouse on 9-11. On the morning of 9-12 I waited until the hardware store opened and went and bought 5 or 6 American flags. I mounted them at my house and at the end of my road which...

    WIP small Hunting knife

I like it. Thats a cool design. Thanks for the WIP. I love seeing a knife start as just a rough profiled blank and changing into something so nice.

    oil heater

Thats good info Ed. I just bought some Parks 50 for 1084 and was planning on doing the ammo can with heater also. I'm in Colorado and my shop is not heated. My thinking was if I kept the oil at a consistent temp I would have more consistent HT results. I'm thinking now that I might still do the...

    My first two grinds

Yep, on the smaller knife I really like the overall design other than the small first finger area as well. On the larger one I'm not really liking the straight spine until you get to the drop point. I might change that pattern to be flat all the way to the point. (not sure what you call that...

    1gallon of Parks 50

Actually I appologize, I need to retract that last offer. I just spoke with the good people at Maxim and ordered 5 gallons of Parks. I'm hoping it pays for itself over having to replace/refresh canola.
