On Of My Knives Was ON American Guns

Wow that's a beautiful knife! I no longer watch those so called "reality" shows including "Sons of Guns". Tired of all the manufactured drama and B.S. that goes on. Seeing your knife sure makes me regret not see that episode though!

1st Hidden Tang - Got Questions

Thanks Doug. I took a round needle file prior to heat treating. It made it through good, however I jacked with the temp on my oven during temper and got a nice purple color along the edge. So I guess I'll re-treat tonight and see if it makes it through again. As for the taper on the blade, when...

1st Hidden Tang - Got Questions

I've started my first hidden tang. I've read a lot of discussions on how it's done and watch a lot of videos. Before I go much further, I have a few questions. First, at the inside corners, how much radius should I leave? I've heard that those corners should be rounded to prevent possible...

What are the tricks to make a 01 steel knife not rust .

I totally disagree with you. I will take it off your hands to save you from the embarrassment of carrying around a knife with a spot on it in hunting camp! Oh the horrors that would befall you! Just make yourself a new one and send that old thing to me ;)

    #18 and #19...I think...

I've about lost count of the knives I've made. I believe I've actually made more, but quite a few are either in the scrap bucket or on my bench waiting for me to gain knowledge on how to *fix* something that isn't right. But I did manage to get these two finished. Both have some flaws and I...

working with stabilized wood and G10 liners

I can't add much, but here's a few things I do. First, I make sure all surfaces that are to be epoxied are flat. Either use sandpaper on a flat surface or the platen on your grinder. If those surfaces are already flat, make sure you rough them up with some coarse sandpaper before epoxying. I...

    table salt as temperature indicator

This is where I bought mine. It was the cheapest place I could find them and the shipped them really quick. I had them in like 3 days. Tempilstiks I've heard about salt melting, but to be honest, I can't remember at what temp it melts. Off the top of my head, I'd say between 1450 and 1500 but...

    One more question....

Thanks for the responses guys. I was just curious as the idea came to me while we were splitting wood. The ram on the splitter we were using is pretty slow and I thought that might be a problem. I need not worry about that at this moment anyway, I don't have a place to put a splitter or press!!

    Which Buffing Wheel?

I just bought the 8" slow speed grinder from Woodcraft with plans to use one side with a buffing wheel. Currently I've been using a bob on my drill press. Which buffing wheel do you suggest using for handles and blades?

    One more question....

Okay, I seem to be on a silly question roll these days...wish I could say this would be the last one...but I doubt it... :) I see a lot of people making their own presses. Why wouldn't a vertical log splitter (or a horizontal turned on end) work? I've seen them in the 20 to 30 ton range...
