    My first since september

Very Nice! Really a clean design (like the team colors) and subtle lock back. Looks like it would slip right into your pocket and be comfortable there! Jay

Seems like a long time ago now when the knife started as a "plan" and blade blank!

    First Lanny's Clip

Thank you Brad, Plas62 and Don! Don you're right it looks like I marked the knife "Stickleg". Ha! Bad enough for a knife maker to have the last name "Stickles" as I do.:1:

    First Lanny's Clip

Third folder,a Christmas present for my son. Its 7 1/4" open with a 3 1/8" blade. The blade is flat ground. The blade and spring are 3/32" A2 tool steel. The scales are Mammoth Ivory. The bolsters are 303 stainless soldered to 304 stainless liners. The liners are relieved by electro-etching...

    Test

Actually its finished but for some final buffing. Its my son's X-Mas present. I've only made three slip joints. This is the third. But they are great fun and very satisfying. My equipment is limited to a GIB grinder, variable speed. A drill press, an eltro-etcher a bunch of files and sandpaper...

Figured it out. Before the "HTTP/ and after the .jpg" the URL has [IMG]. So it would be like: "[IMG]HTTP//Farm_etc.jpg[IMG]". You have to include the [IMG] at both ends. jay

    A pair with stag

Craig, Each of your knives is an inspiration! Always excellent design and craftsmanship. I'm just an a beginner at making slip joints (only 3 so far). Each was a learning experience -poor design, soldered bolsters falling off, etc. But, the most frustrating experience was when the spring on the...

    Swedge Help

I'm not sure I'm qualified to give any advice on this subject, but I'll tell you what I do. I do the swedge after heat treat. When putting the swedge on a clip point, I use a wheel and a fine grit belt (like 400 grit) and work slowly. I think the last time I did this it took 1 1/2 hours for a...

Grinder build question - possible to start on single speed and later upgrade to VFD?

A GIB is a direct drive frame kit. Maybe someone has modified a GIB to use pulleys. Otherwise I've read good things about a Coote grinder. It's a two wheel grinder but works well with a three pulley setup for three speeds using a single phase, plug in the wall, motor. I'm using a 1 1/2 hp with...

Grinder build question - possible to start on single speed and later upgrade to VFD?

I think if you are uncomfortable wiring the motor and VFD you should get help. You'll have to wire the plug to the VFD and then the VFD to the motor. But, frankly its not hard to do. At least with the KBAC 27D, don't know about the TECO; see Beaumont Metals web site for instructions. I don't...

Grinder build question - possible to start on single speed and later upgrade to VFD?

I built a GIB and I think you've made a good choice. To use a VFD you'll need a three phase motor. My understanding is that if you want use a three phase motor you can't just plug it into household receptacles. You'll need a converter. Once you buy that you might as well get a VFD. I think the...

    Soldering 416 and D2

Jeff, I use a small paintbrush to apply the flux. Just remember the flux is very corrosive! Any that spilled or leaked on to anything iron or steel (vise, files, etc.)will change it to rust overnight. And remember to "wash" the soldered guard and blade well to remove any flux left after you...

    Soldering 416 and D2

What I do, and have not perfected this but get OK results, is clean the surfaces with acetone, then rubbing alchohol. Any remnant of rouge, wax or oil will be a problem. Use stay brite flux and solder(as you noted). I've used the hardware store leadfree solder and its OK, but Stay Brite is...
