    W2 Rc question

In hind sight I should have started with this question and I apologize for not doing so. I am making some hunting knives out of W2. I picked this steel because it is supposed to perform well and I would like to try a few hamons. What would be a good Rc to have this steel at for a hunting type of...

    Brine question

Thanks for the information. I appreciate it. If I were to do two, let the oven equalize and put two more in would I leave them in for only 10 minutes and then quench or would I leave them in longer? The reason I ask is the other knives are brought up to 1460F from room temp so it takes a while...

I made a Kydex sheath for the second knife I made. I think I will source out some leather to make a belt loop.

    Brine question

I appreciate the info. Another heat treating related question....if I'm doing 4 knives and the oven temp drops about 100 degrees between the first knife and the fourth one, is is a big mistake? Brine question

I made a brine (2 pounds of salt with 2 gallons of water) and quenched six knives in it. Should I make a new batch of brine for the next knives I do or is it OK to continue using this one? Thanks in advance.

    Heat treating W2

I made a cutting test video but my camera work leaves something to be desired. The knife retained a good edge after 16" of 1/4" sisal rope so all in all I would say it is pretty good steel. Not sure if I should try to tweak the heat treat at all. I went 1460F for 10 minutes (knives and oven...

TDM Super Grinder with adjustable belt tensioner

Terry does nice work. I just started making knives and use his TDM Basic grinder and TDM universal grinding jig. For me the results have been pretty good. This is one blade I ground from W2 post heat treat.

    Heat treating W2

Thanks. The test knife is done and I'll put an edge on it tomorrow and see how it performs. Maybe the heat treat was good, and maybe it wasn't. I glued up another one also.

    Heat treating W2

Thanks. This is where I was at yesterday. The blade had a bit of a divot in it (other side) so the grind lines aren't even. This will be my test knife.
