Which metal cuting band saw to buy?

I went a little crazy with my H/F bandsaw. It is permanently vertical, has a permanent seat, an oiler system for smoother cutting, a solid aluminum table and a foot switch. The H/F band saw is great (if you spend the time to adjust it properly).

What are the best grinders that a man who wants to one day be a pro buy

I have a suggestion. Get your grinder before you take Gill Hibben's class. I took his class in 2012 and got my grinder 4/5 months later. I would have done much better if I had some 'learning' time directly before and right after taking his class. Then you will not 'forget' as much as I did and...

List of things to keep telling yourself while in the shop:

I do not have this problem. However, I do have a troll living in my shop that steals things. From right before my eyes !!! Sometimes the troll does not return things for a couple of days.

I am looking for a tool

Do a search for 'snap on sanding disks". The sanding disks are available in various grits and sizes. Most jewelry supply houses, like Rio Grande, stock them.

Hibben's Knife Class vs. Texarkana College - American Bladesmith. Which is best?

I took Gil Hibben's class when, like you, I retired. I would strongly recommend that you take the Texarkana College course. I wish I would have...

    Where I'm at..

Where I'm at after a couple of years... I am a gold smith---I make small things. That's what I enjoy and that's what I am totally set up todo. But, I have mostly worked in non-ferrous metals. Not much in steel, but my enthusiasm was high. I closed my retail store in 2012 at 70,retired (not...

    Stabalizing

I have found that home stabilizing (Using Cactus juice) works very well for small quantities of wood. I already had a vacuum set up and I found that doing a big piece of wood (4" x 4" x 6") took longer and did not do as good a job as on a small piece of wood suitable for scales. It is very...

    Knife Making Startup Costs....Need Input/Help

Madupree- one thing you should consider in dealing with a large corporation is 'payment' time. I know this doesn't deal with your original topic, but it can make a huge difference in your success. The last job I did for a 'big' company (over $12,000.00 in material costs alone), I didn't get paid...

    which foredom?

The TX Series seems to have the best torque/speed ratio of any of the Foredoms I have used, and I've been using Foredoms as my 'right hand' for 30 + years. Everything from the 'S' series on up. I also have opted for a 'quick change' handpiece, but it will only accommodate 3/32" bits. A word of...

Its Almost 2015 What are you happy about fellow Dogster's?

Heya Laurence. The new year brings thoughts of what I 'didn't' do in 2014. One of those things was thanking you for the EXCELLENT job you did on sharpening my scissors and knife. Your work is to be applauded. Teddy

Its Almost 2015 What are you happy about fellow Dogster's?

2013 went fast...2014 went faster. Whew, what a year. When I first got into knife making, I wanted to do everything. And then I hit reality... This year I am going to finish up all the old projects (this is a yearly resolution that somehow never gets done) , and not start anything else that...
