    Aged Hunter

Very cool knife. The silky oak goes well with the aged steel.

    brut-de-forge-Challenge KITH

It is interesting, today I got a call from a good customer about making prizes for a story-telling competition they have every year. The rules are, they need 6 knives, can only pay $50 apiece for them, and I've got one week to get it done... this, my friends, is where one-piece knives shine...

    Information on Richard Batson Knives

I found this thread on him over at knifeforums.com, and a mention of him in an Oregon Knife Collector's newsletter here (pdf link). A google search for 'Richard Batson knives turned up a few other links that might be helpful, plus some images of his knives.

Another warped blade thread....or is it..?

Annealed steel is soft, so it can be bent easily. You can probably bend it back by hand.

    brut-de-forge-Challenge KITH

Well, it looks like this may be the world's smallest KITH. Do you think changing the due date to give us more time might help? I've forged out 3 one-piece knives the other day, trying to decide which I like best....

    pattern-welded broadsax

This one proved to be a challenge... 24 1/4" overall length, 15" blade. Handle is hard maple, fittings are wrought iron, and the blade is w1 with a pattern-welded strip of 1084/15n20. Sheath buttons cast by Thorkil. thanks for looking.

    Etching with Acid problem/question

I use ferric chloride to etch my mark also, you can get a good deep crisp mark with it on carbon steel, but it takes awhile (my typical process requires 1 1/2 hours and requires 180 grit sandpaper to remove if I screw up). I spray with ammonia afterwards, which neutralizes the FC. It sounds...

Slow cool, or quick cool when tempering

This was the reasoning I was given for possible benefits for a post-temper quench, and the reason I do it (other than the time factor).

its back to drive me crazy

I've had this pop up from time to time too, my solution was a satin, unetched finish for that blade....:) I too would dearly like to know what it is, what causes it, and how to avoid it. Warren's post is the best explaination I've heard yet.

    brut-de-forge-Challenge KITH

http://knifedogs.com/showthread.php?35310-Brut-de-Forge-Challenge A while back Tim Lively started the above thread, challenging us to make a brut-de-forge knife and post it. It sounded like a great idea, but after 6 months we have had a total of one finished knife... for myself, commissions...
