Does Sharpie Marker burn off while grinding?

I can't make a knife without a sharpie pin. I do like the other guys and clean the oil off the steel first.

    Gaucho type knife

I was contacted about about making a gaucho type knife. I have never made one before or even looked into making one. The buyer is a super nice guy so I told him I would take a look at gaucho knives and come up with something. I researched gauchos on the web and basically came up with a...

    thumb traction?

I mainly use O1 steel and my 20 LPI checking file is going to last for a very long time. They are not cheap. Jantz Supply has them for around $30. I can't think of a easier way to get uniform jimping.

    Pushy Joe Public

I take orders if they are something I would like to make. Many times customers says something like "I'm a deer hunter" and then give me full artistic license. I make the knife, send them a picture and a price, and they choose to buy it or pass. That covers about 75% of the requests I get...

    Jimping after the fact

I would try to make a jig of some type. If you just grab a dremel with a cut off wheel and have at it by hand, odds are it's going to look like someone had at a knife with a dremel tool and cut off wheel which is usually pretty bad.

    Just a knife

It's just correct. It looks very well made and custom without being too fancy. That is the kind of knife that earns braging rights at deer camp and still gets used. It's the perfect combo of style and function. Anything more might be too much.

    Oak handled knife

The handle was made from a stabilized oak burl block. It was hard, dense and worked well with a file. I just cut the scales, glued them on, shaped, sanded, and buffed.

    Oak handled knife

I've worked with oak on wood projects but this is the first time I have tried it on a knife handle. I kinda like it. The knife 8 3/4" OAL, 3/16" O1, brass bolsters and pins.

    Leather Handled Fixed Blades?

I've only made one and I thought that I had treated the leather correctly. I've never used it and after sitting for two years the leather shrank enough that you can feel the transitions between handle material with your finger tip. Leather just doesn't seem to be very stable.

    o-1 stain resistance

I couple coats of wax to start with and coat again once a year should keep it shiny. If it gets handled, wipe it down to avoid fingerprints.

    Fighter or Bowie???

I'd go with fighter. It's a great looking knife reguardless of how it's labeled.

    What's your production EDC today?

When I leave the house I grab one of these four. I've had the bottom one for 30 years and it's about used up.

I looked at that one for a couple minutes. It's not complex but it is very striking.

Katana, bujikan sword, what sword has an ultimate advantage?

Kip, it sounds like you have listened to all the fantasy stories about the mythical katana. A katana is made from steel. Even the best katanas will bend, break, chip, and dull depending on what is done to them. A katana doesn't cut any beter than any other sharp, long, thin profiled piece of...
