A question for fellow slip joint makers.

Alright might open a can of worms here. I am looking for more experienced makers thoughts on relieving liners and pivot bushings. My concerns would be lack of support for the blade tang with relieved liners. As for the pivot bushing my concern would be the limited amount of metal left around the...

    Lock back whittler

I am envious. I will defiantly have to attempt something similar in the future.

Thanks for the interest guys. I primarily build slip joints and darn few of those.

    Latest distraction. Experimenting

Well no big secrets here. Made from file tang, quarters and 26 gauge wire. I set the inlays after initial grind and prior to hardening. Not sure of the alloy in quarters but it wasn't as easy as fine silver to inlay. Did my final grind and proceeded with the etch. Hard to iron a toner resist...

    Latest distraction. Experimenting

This project isn't at all what I intended to build. Trial by fire. It turned out alright. My resist for my etch didn't quite hold up. Everything I build is just practice for the next go round.

    Wharncliffe. Not perfect but nice.

Hollow ground. Culpepper ivory color bone scales. 3 1/4 closed. 5 3/4 open. Wicked sharp little knife. Might have to keep this one.

    Pay It Forward help

That is very generous of both of you. I am sure the tools will be put to good use. I am afraid all I can part with is knowledge and that is of little use to anyone.

    Anvil repair

I had previously found that particular article. What I read seems to make sense. Thanks for the replies. I seem to spend all summer dreaming up things to keep me busy in the winter. I will try to post the results if I decide to tackle this project.

    Anvil repair

Cracks are my fear. My brother tried repairing one with hard surfacing. Cracked all over. I read about about heating the anvil prior to welding. I thought I could use a branding torch which is a glorified weed burner to warm the thing up. Hate to mess it up.

    Anvil repair

I have a Peter Wright anvil that weighs a little over three hundred pounds. The face is in good shape but the edges and hardy hole are a little worse for wear. I have done some research but would like some thoughts or considerations of those that may have repaired on anvils.

    First two blade.

Okay now I have a question on assembly. I made a two pronged tool that I chucked up in my drill press to push on both back springs at once. It worked okay but would love to hear other methods on how to go about this process. I am very interested in building more multi blades.

    First two blade.

Thanks again for all the kind words. If I'm lucky I will be able to start another one soon. Busy time of year for me. Got rained out of the hay field yesterday. Had the opportunity to go watch my nephew and oldest son clean house at the rendezvous for the third year now. Excellent marksmen. The...

    First two blade.

Thanks for the kind words. It could have a better finish on it. But I have a bad habit of fussing with something till I screw it up. I have learned to live with small flaws and try to do better on the next one. Each one is a learning experience for the next.

    Advice on multi blade slippies

Yes , I have built several single blades. Building slip joints are all that really interest me. The challenge of multiple blades should keep me busy for a little while. There should be some pictures of my knives on previous posts. Thanks for the input. Might have more questions when it...

    Advice on multi blade slippies

Okay let's say two blade. Do you fit up one back spring and blade then use the same pivot and back spring holes to fit up secondary blade? I have a trapper pattern drawn up and would like to attempt this first. Any little pointers would help greatly. I just use a board with properly sized nails...
