    Finishing lignum vitae

First of all, I got LUCKY today! My buddy at Wood Craft called me over while I was in the store this afternoon and told me that he found some old pen blanks in the back room of the store and thought I might be interested since the blanks were just over 1" x 1" and 14" long. He handed me a...

    Something for the new guys

Hola ZBQ! I haven't owned a commercially made pit in many years. I make my own and am currently working on my newest creation that will be PLC controlled, have a touch screen, and a light stack as well... I'm a geek, what can I say. Shoot me a PM and I'll send you an address to check out my...

    Something for the new guys

WOW, I feel really weird saying what I did in the title to this since I am still VERY new to knife making. But, all things aside, we had granite counter tops put in our house today and the guys that were doing the install were VERY nice to us... They made a great piece for my smoker table...

    Hand held mini buffer.

Looks like a good idea from here. Do you fray out the edges of the denim or let it do so naturally? Charlie

    Started a blade in 1993

WAY BACK in 93, I started a blade made out of "some sort" of stainless. I was working for a company at the time called Iron Works and we mostly made ornamental iron fixtures and handles. One day I ran across this piece of stainless and decided I was gonna make a knife from it. Now, until...

The things we do for love... Also a wood quiz!

Wife to me last night: Honey, I'd like you to make a paring knife of yours for each couple coming over for the Team Building party on the 29th." Me: "What paring knives?" Wife: "You know, the ones you give to your BBQ friends." Me: "Um, sweets, those are from blanks and are not MY knives"...

    Twisted damascus thanks to Bob

Bob Warner that is... Ok, I've been gone for a bit, well actually quite a while, but I have a good excuse; work sucks! I've been traveling a LOT for work and haven't been able to do much. OK, I through whining and will now start talking about my latest conquest! I hammered out some damascus...

Semi WIP, have questions, need some opinions

Thanks Keith, After looking at it a LOT more, and handling it a bit, I'm seeing the bulk as well. As I said, this was done for a guy based on his drawings. He does a lot of period play and wanted this to match his outfits when he is in costume on the weekends. As for steel, I typically...

Semi WIP, have questions, need some opinions

2 weeks ago I had a fellow provide me with an old file with the request that I make a hybrid Bowie/bayonet knife for him. He also gave me a drawing of what he wanted blade and handle wise. Due to the nature of this project, and knowing the person, I asked for a down payment; he is known for...

Black Palm is a PAIN to work

So, I got a guy that wants black palm on one of the slicing knife blanks I acquired. No problem I figured. Got a block of the stuff 5x5x2 and sliced off a couple of pieces to play with to see how it works for me. WOW! The black is HARD and the light colored part is SOFT! Move it wrong...

    Mailbox delight! pic heavy

An online friend of mine is a BBQ type and asked if I could make him a small trimming type knife. I whipped one up and sent it off to him a few weeks back. He liked it a lot and told me to look for a surprise in the mail soon. He sent me some "junk wood" that he can't use in his wood...

    Forged 1084 and Jigged Bone

I like the look of the scales, and the shape of the handle begs to be held. Looking at the scales with the "dye inconsistencies", IMO, make it look like thinned antler material. A lot of people want that look without the price of real antler, I may also add that the peened pins add to the...

    Latest Nessy

I know some folks that do "rendezvous" that would be all over this knife! Great work IMO. Loving the patina Charlie

    Elk and 1084

The bird of paradise seems to be shining on this creation! I REALLY like the way the "bolster" rides up into the guard... Very nice knife! The hammered finish on the blade AND the cap are perfect when married to the antler! Charlie
