    My first completed knives

Wanted to start a thread on my first completed knives. I will try and post them in order, so you can see if there is an improvement. Note, that I didn't realize that the blades had to be finished to at least 400 grit before HT. So when I got the first batch back, they had a rougher finish than...

    Boot leather scrap for sheaths

If you are getting lots like that for $5 a lb, grab me some, I'd love to get started on some sheaths myself.

    Stencils?

I contacted at least 3 vendors and only Ernie helped me out. TUS refused to use the font that I found, and Electro never returned a call. Ernie jumped right on my design and made it happen. I can't wait to get his stencil in my hands. Hopefully today so I can start practicing this weekend.

    Maker's mark

I think it's Blue Lightening or something like that? google Ernie's Knives and it should pop up. You will need a method to etch too. My buddy made me one out of a cell phone charger, lol. Don't ask me how, but it works.

    Cutting scales

I can cut them on the metal band saw, but they don't come out straight. I wanted to know how you cut them straight? Like you were going to re-sell them? Or if I buy a block, how do you cut them in equal pieces? I've tried to make a fence on my Swag table, but they don't come out straight.

    Cutting scales

This might be a dumb question, but how do ya'll cut blocks into handle scales? I've tried several ways, but I ruin the wood each time I try.

Suggestions for good clean bevels and ricassos?

I just ordered an Esteem grinder, variable speed with Platen and got a great deal on it. Like you, I've been working on a simple belt grinder to get started (1x30 from HF) but I'm enjoying making kbives so much I budgeted for an upgrade. 2x72's are expensive, really expensive actually. But...

Suggestions for good clean bevels and ricassos?

This might be elementary, but I use a grinding jig. I took a piece of angle iron, drilled and tapped two holes in the one side to make an angle and I clamp my blade to the other side. I use that to guide my grind, always staying at the correct angle. I've tried to grind without it, and I make...

    My first blades

I'll probably go to Texas Knifemaker Supply here local, I like to support the local guys. But yes, once I get my 2x72 I will be buying a bunch of belts, and the scotchbrite is on my radar. I'm hoping that will help me with my post-HT cleanup.
