    Maker's Mark, Opinions?

I forgot about this thread, it's amazing how much you change your mind when you are new to this game, I don't like any of these now. I want to something that looks professional. Until I get some stencils I think I will just do my name in a fancy font. I am no good at calligraphy though. I will...

    Plywood

I can afford to use micarta but if I can save anywhere at the moment I do. Buying in bulk is only really good for when I am a bit more established and I know of only one other Scottish maker that uses it so a group buy is off. Can't find other makers because BritishBlades ban you if you say...

    New website

I like the site, I'm on a mobile and it works great; not many other sites work well on mobiles.

    Plywood

AR, I meant that I would get plywood and have it stabilised. Micarta is expensive here and it would be cheaper to have plywood stabilised. I don't like the look of dymondwood but I figured the plywood won't look too bad. I dot approve of dying wood anyway.

    Plywood

I imagine that stabilised plywood would make a very strong handle material. It wouldn't looks too bad. Is it worth trying or am I being silly. I have lots of plywood and very little money and this idea seems cheap. The layers would be good for symmetry practice and I like layered looking...

A non-matching pair of knives WIP.

http://imageshack.us/a/img41/6126/photoapr27211123.jpg this is a picture of the plunges, it is the only angle I could get a picture of. Turns out that buffalo horn is an awful material and I hate it. It warped so it didn't fit properly. It was a waste of £10 worth of horn and some black fibre. I...

    Hatcher Cerabok Variant

I'm going to go with Ben on this one. Definitely had some help from Dr. Suess. It's a sweet looking knife though.

    My sword plans.

I have decided that's swords are very cool and I need one. I can't afford to stock remove one so I will forge it. I can't forge for a few months because of my arm but I want to get some information on sword making. I want to make a talwar or scimitar, maybe a wakizashi or maybe a schiavona. I...

how much options to give buyers?

They cancel because people are thinking about £15 a knife not £100. I wouldn't take money from a client unless the nature of the knife made it hard to sell otherwise or was expensive to make. If a client wants their name etched into the blade for example, I would want the money before etching...

how much options to give buyers?

For the buyer who knows what they want it is easy, if they don't I would let them see the closest thing you can to what you think they would like and ask them what parts they don't like because no matter how small it is you should be making a knife that is exactly how they want. If they see a...

    2nd Knife Finished / Critique

I'm by no means an expert but it looks like you want to knock the hard edges off the handle. I guess it doesn't matter so much on a small knife like this. I would have moved the plunge toward the handle slightly for a smaller ricasso and more edge but that's just me. Other than that I don't see...

    6" utility knife

It is a nice looking knife, where are you getting the stainless from? I can't seem to locate any thin enough.

Tapered tang/hollow grind with no grinder?

I will do a tool scrounge in the craft department at school tomorrow and see what I can gather. One of the teachers thinks its great that I make knives. I also have a possible source of free tools and stuff because my friends dad works at a submarine building place. I might just do a paring...

Tapered tang/hollow grind with no grinder?

I will look for thinner stock but I will see what I find. I need to get myself a file set I think.

A non-matching pair of knives WIP.

I haven't had much time to post but this is from between Wednesday and yesterday. http://imageshack.us/a/img46/1623/photoapr17230120.jpg This is the welts glued up and you can see how the blade is retained. http://imageshack.us/a/img843/1340/photoapr17223349.jpg I glued up the snake and...

Tapered tang/hollow grind with no grinder?

I might just have to try that, is 4mm stock too thick? It is all I can easily get in stainless. Would I draw file a flat grind to start and then hollow it or do I use your method the whole way? GWF, I'm no expert but I reckon that with some practice you can make everything with hand tools. They...

    Come on dogs lets chat.

This is probably the only time anyone will get worthwhile advice from me about knifery. Drawing patterns is the one thing I reckon I'm good at. I start off by thinking up a knife and then I usually sit for ten to fifteen minutes trying to imagine every single detail of the knife, I then imagine...

Tapered tang/hollow grind with no grinder?

I can't quite see what you mean. Do I hold the file parallel to the blade? Diagrams would be useful I think
