    The gun blue works as a rapid oxidizer when it comes in contact with the bleach. For a resist i use either clear nail polish, oil, or a sharpie.

    The gun blue and bleach causes rapid oxidation like an acid etch would but instead your using a base to build that rust layer on the outside of the knife.     Last year i made the little brother of this guy. Went a bit "fancy" and gave it some tiger stripe intaglio etching using the gun blue and bleach method. Just need to put on the turks head and seal the handle.
