    Lockback makers tang question

I have the Lake, Clay, and Centofante lockback book and I am focusing on Ron Lakes section. When he talks about the tang and locklug in the closed position. There is a description and a picture a few pages later, but its too dark to tell if the point of the tang is sitting on the tang or behind...

    When is thin to thin?

This was actually a junk blade i was practicing nail nicks in. I ended up hollow griding the actual blade, but didnt go near that thin. Ive heard other makers say they would take theirs that thin. I played with this blade (its been heat treated) no way i could let that out of my shop.

    When is thin to thin?

I was playing around with a nail nick and hollow grinding and ground this .085" thick blade on a 14" wheel. The line parallel to the edge is where the blade thickness reaches .015" and is .240" from the edge The line perpendicular to the spine is a little over half an inch fromnthe point...

    Lockback lockup trouble

I drew a picture that shows the angles a bit exaggerated, but would this do the same? I put together a mock up before i did it this way and it seems to be working. When the lock bar pivots on its circle the points making contact pull away from the lock notch in the blade. Will a mechancial...

    Lockback lockup trouble

Lol, i was confused a bit on the short spring, then realized what you were refering to. I made two integral springs for this blade and just did not like them i orginally madenone 5 or 6 years ago and it broke the first time i mocked the knife up. I decided to go with a seperate spring because i...

    Lockback lockup trouble

Im hesitant to post this for fear of upsetting the "things seem to be headed in the direction gods" but after messing with it and talking on the phone with Ron Lake, i believe it was an angle problem. In the book it shows the blade as having a 6 to 8 degree angle on the back and 4 to 5 on the...

    Auodad Horn

It wasn't too bad finding a thick enough piece. Both of these knives came from one set of 24" horns. I could have gotten a set or two more I think had the horns not been damaged. I also think if I wanted to boil and try to straiten some, I could have several more scales out of the same set of...
