1018

Is 1018 usable for guards and such. I was just given a bunch of it and know it is to low in carbon for knives but thought it could be used fro other stuff.

Yes you can use it for guards. ive done some guards in mild steel before and they came out good.

Also if its the right size for handsanding.

Bruce Bump uses 1018 for guards... I figure that counts for something.

I specifically order 1018 for use on my dagger and sword guards, it is predictable, consistent and machines like a dream. That was a good gift to be given!
