Beaumont Metal Works Platen

So I've outgrown my multi platen on my GIB and am looking for a flat platen that would work with it. After doing the math on it, it seems more cost effective to go with the KMG-PLA. My only questions is, "Will it work?"

Any help on this matter would be great. Thanks.

Mike,

I have a GIB and bought the Beaumont flat platen. It works great, but like everything they make its heavy duty. The body of the platen is 1/2 aluminum and the brackets that attach to the platen arm are 3/8" thick. I only have one tool arm, solid aluminum. I had 1/2", the width of the platen body, milled off the side where I attach the platen and use the other side for my wheel. Otherwise I had to move the drive wheel (the wheel that attaches the motor - not sure of terminology) back and forth every time I switched from wheel to platen. Here's some pics. of my setup.

Mike,

Now that I think about this a bit more, it may have been a heck of a lot easier to put some washers or another nut to move the contact wheel 1/2" farther away from the tool arm, than what I did. But, either way you'll have to account for the width of the platen body. I think my concern about just moving the contact wheel away from the tool arm was that since I have a 56C motor, moving the drive wheel another 1/2" down the shaft and away from the motor, was not a good idea. Anyway, you could move your contact wheel 1/2" away from the tool arm, then realign your drive wheel and see what you think.
