So I asked Jr to try some new stuff. By new I mean new to us. Not NEW, as in we invented this stuff. Just wanted to be clear on that in case it is somehow read wrong. ;)

Anyways. I asked Jr to make me some san mai. stainless over carbon core.. New to us!! :)

Heres the "test" piece. Its W2 core with 410 SS cladding. Blade is just over 11" long and is under 1/8" at the spine. Approx 2.2mm thick

Needless to say. Jr's got skills. and I am stoked about hos this one is going to turn out!

He will be doing some san mai billets with 1084 and SS cladding. and more with W2 and SS cladding and even some Blue #2 core with SS cladding. Hes also gona test and try to make me some Stainless core with stainless cladding to play around with!

enough talkin. check this out guys!

well, that gave me the goosebumps the moment I saw a picture!!!
that, my dear sir, is an eye catcher!!

This one is on the bench now. Having a heck of a time selecting handle materials. I have some BLUE quilted maple that really seems to go well with the knife. But its blue. ? Also looked at some cocobolo and some dark burl Birch I think. Decisions, Decisions..

That is some cool stuff. I'm up for buying some. Just my two cents but I think you should go with a nice maple handle. The light colored wood against the dark colored blade should look good. But like I said just my two cents.

That is some truly beautiful stuff! If I might be so bold to make a suggestion on handle material, I would go with a solid color material as not to detract from the beauty of the steel. Something like Padauk would add a little color without taking away from the great blade. Whatever you choose, this is bound to be a gorgeous knife.

To say Junior has skills may very well be the understatement of the year Randy. That is fantastic...

So I went with Cocobolo burl. Its pretty dark stuff and although beautiful it doesnt steal the show. :) Untill ya get it outside in full sunlight. Then ya can see whats going on with the wood!

A few images of the finished knife. :)
