Christmas in October!

As most of you know, Im a collector of sorts, or should I say a Burl Junky.. LMAO!!

I collect Burl, and woods and other awesome handle materials that I find unique and beautiful. I may have a problem.. and at some point may even need a intervention..

As of late, I have been adding Ivory to my collection. and have scored some amazing stuff over the last year. I picked up a couple of Huge chunks of mammoth ivory from the Ice Age. Also scored a whole musk ox horn from Alaska.. And now this..

For me, its as much about being able to cut and process the materials as it is to just have them and using them on a knife. I truly enjoy cutting and processing, I often take a day or two and do nothing but work on the band saw, cutting burl or ivory..

Dang Randy, that's a beauty. It's almost gonna be a shame to cut that one up.
 
You can probably make some scales out of the bone too. Hope you got documentation that it is pre-ban ivory.

Doug, Its gona really be some beautiful stuff.

Its perfectly legal. This great animal was harvested for food and to sustain life by native Inuit's.. In turn it was given to me by a Native Inuit friend. Just sayin.. lol
 
Very cool Randy!! You are correct it is perfectly legal in that state being Native american art:) But..... if you cut it into scales it is no longer art and now is no longer legal from my understanding! I also have some walrus tusks that are art and that is what I found when checing on that.

Well, I dont think I will have to worry about this any longer!! I get to keep these just the way they are! Im gong to pollish the entire thing and make a wall mount from it and display it proudly in my dinning room with my deer head mounts!

Phew.. I was blessed to hear my customer didnt care if I use another piece of ivory for his knife..
 
Ohh, I almost forgot to mention, I also received a slice of KILLER looking meteorite in October. Thanks Eaglewood! :)

Im glad your not cutting it up that would be a shame . Its worth alot more the way it is than if it was on a knife anyhow. Thats why your a burl junky . Kellyw
 
Being a very caring person I just couldn't live with myself if I didn't let you send that to me for safe keeping, in case you get the urge to cut it up. There's no need to thank me.
 
Tom, I just boxed it up and insured it for 10000000000 dollars! Please let me know when it doesnt arrive so I can make a claim!! :D Just kidding.

I will be making a base for the scull and tusks, so it is at the right angle for best look when displayed. Then I plan to mount that to a large hand finished maple or birch burl slab that will hang in my dining room.. No matter how much it may or may not be worth, Its now a family treasure that will be a part of my home and hopefully part of my children's, children's,, children.. homes..

Yep, Kelly, You got that right.. Its one of them things that will be cherished by myself and story will be told about it long after I am gone! :) As it should be!!! I got lots of burl and ivory to play with.. Without having to screw up such a awesome piece of history! :D
