Classic Bowies from years past

I have gotten into recreating some of the classic Bowies recently and here are three that I have built that might interest you:

Rose/New York--circa 1840

William Butcher/Sheffield--circa 1837

Let me know what you think.

Good looking bowies! Is that ivory or bone on first one? Really like the classic looks of those-

Thanks everyone. I had a lot of fun recreating them.

[The first one has fossil walrus, the second is blackwood, and the third is rosewood.]

Outstanding Old Timey Bowies Gary. I sure like our not so humble beginnings. Them old Masters could really design a fighting knife. Nice work recreating them. What's next?

Thanks, Bruce. There are so many classic Bowies from that era that I would love to make that it is hard to find a stopping point. I just finished a George Woodhead Bowie (sorry for the photography but I can't compete with Chuck Ward):

and have started another that has the blade of a William Butcher and the handle of a Bunting & Sons:

I guess that I am hooked on making these old classics and recently have been building one in between doing each of my typical knives. I hope that everyone enjoys seeing the classics.

Thats a gorgeous bowie. What page is that on?

Bruce,

I took the liberty of making this one a combination of two different Bowies. I don't have the book in front of me to know the exact pages but the blade is from a William Butcher knife and the handle is from a Robert Bunting (I just liked Butcher's blades better than Bunting's). Glad that you liked it.
