There's an old elk hunter in Oregon who's going to be happy when he gets this.
D-2,Dymond wood, stainless bolsters, guitar pick guard spacers, nickel silver thong hole liner and copper mosaic pins.

Great knife Calvin. As for the checkering, was it done in a vacuum seal bag? I did that on my first wet formed sheath totally by accident.

Great looking hunter Calvin.

I'd guess you pressed the pattern in the leather with a piece of screen and a flat board before making the sheath ????

Take care,

Josh

Being from Oregon and an elk hunter, I know that the elk hunter receiving this is going to be very happy. Nice work, Calvin.
My guess on the checkering would have been squeezed in the vice and if that is how you did it, it sure came out uniform.

Thank you all for your comments and for trying to guess how I textured the leather.
Mike928 got it right,I wet formed the leather to the knife in a vacuumed seal bag that I use for sealing meat that I put in the freezer. Like you Mike this was a complete surprise to me but a pleasant surprise. The inside of the bag material is textured to allow for air to be pumped out from around wet contents so when the vacum is pulled down the bag is pressed tightly against the leather and leaves this imprint.

As soon as I realized what had happened I thought,I can make all kinds of patterns on wet leather using this process. I'll be experimenting and show y'all what happens.

Sweet Knife!
Skin out a Elk and pick some Guitar notes all in one!

the Vacuum textures would be nice on sheath thumb & finger wrap locations for traction while drawing or replacing a knife.

I don't know where that pick guard material originates from,I got it from a friend who is friends with a man in Pensacola that CNC mills electric guitars out of aluminum billets.

Calvin,
There are all kinds of related & unrelated craft materials that we can use.

The Westinghouse paper Micarta from 30 plus years ago was made for Musical instruments, Pool Cue's and everything else.

Nice find on the pick material.

Calvin, you still cranking out some awesome knives. Of course anyone named Calvin would excel at whatever they did.:3: Keep up the good work man.

Calvin I really like that one. The guitar pics thing is really adds a look and that is thinking outside the box.

I got to get to meet you as we live real close to one another!

I think you know another maker that I know Steve Jernnigan not sure about the spelling. I used to work with him a few years ago. I showed him one of my first knives back before I knew what kind of work he does. He told me it looked like a good user. Little did I know that was probably the kindest thing he could say at the time! When I saw some of his work I realized that we weren't even talking apples to oranges.

I have admired your folders but I really like this fixed blade!
