Yeah, that's a good idea Tom! Thanks for the suggestion.
Laurence, I understand what you're talking about with positioning the platen or wheel about solar plexus height. That would be a good working height for me; it's right where I built my grinder bench to position the wheel when I'm standing at it. Finding a tall enough (I'm a tall guy) stool, and like Tom suggested one that spins, will be tricky. But I'm sure there's something out there that will work. Believe me, there have been many times I would like to have been sitting while I worked. This morning I was hand sanding a blade sitting down, and while I couldn't get my accustomed force behind the strokes, it was a relief to get some work done in a relaxed posture. And I did get it done.
I've had terrible fears about losing the use of an arm or a hand and not knowing how I'd make knives one-handed. I'm sure though, that there are makers who manage just that. Anyway, my hat is off to you guys who continue to work with your disabilities. I hope that should I need that kind of grit some day that I'll come up with it. Life would not be so much joy if I didn't make stuff once in a while.
Thanks for all the advice and encouragement. You're a great bunch of people and I'm thankful for this forum to connect us.![]()

Thanks for the links. I bought my platen liners at the following link:

They were a little more expensive than Tracy has them for, and had I been able to find them on his store that's where I'd have bought them. But I was in a hurry to get my platen lined! It's sure the cat's meow with the glass on it. I'd forgotten how nice it is to grind on a glass vs steel platen.
