Cutting Pyroceramic Glass?

It sure seems I'm pointed in the same direction. Like you fellows, I will do what I have to to stay in the "action" . Frank.

Dave,
Sit lower, not higher so the platen is little a lower Chest high.
My sweet spot for this is below my sternum & above my belly button. Another way is to go really low with your rear and put your elbows on your knees.
Look at Mike carters videos of the huge Camp knife he made. He shows a great exsample of this method.

Find what works for you.

I am put together with Titanium in my lower spine and just can't stand that long. I get around fine.

Cheers and keep your nose to the GrindStone!

Laurence, I understand what you're talking about with positioning the platen or wheel about solar plexus height. That would be a good working height for me; it's right where I built my grinder bench to position the wheel when I'm standing at it. Finding a tall enough (I'm a tall guy) stool, and like Tom suggested one that spins, will be tricky. But I'm sure there's something out there that will work. Believe me, there have been many times I would like to have been sitting while I worked. This morning I was hand sanding a blade sitting down, and while I couldn't get my accustomed force behind the strokes, it was a relief to get some work done in a relaxed posture. And I did get it done.

I've had terrible fears about losing the use of an arm or a hand and not knowing how I'd make knives one-handed. I'm sure though, that there are makers who manage just that. Anyway, my hat is off to you guys who continue to work with your disabilities. I hope that should I need that kind of grit some day that I'll come up with it. Life would not be so much joy if I didn't make stuff once in a while.

Thanks for all the advice and encouragement. You're a great bunch of people and I'm thankful for this forum to connect us. :)

Dave,
I am over 6ft 4" and 260lbs. So I am not a shorty ether! I postion myself to the grinder by that sweet spot for the Platen below the solar plexus with my forearms slighty raised, That way I can lock my arms to the sides at my elbows and lean my upper torso forward for heavy grinding.

Keep at it,you will find a comfortable postion to sit and grind effectively.

Thanks for the links. I bought my platen liners at the following link:

http://www.hightemptools.com/ceramicplatenliners.html

They were a little more expensive than Tracy has them for, and had I been able to find them on his store that's where I'd have bought them. But I was in a hurry to get my platen lined! It's sure the cat's meow with the glass on it. I'd forgotten how nice it is to grind on a glass vs steel platen.

I was very active in Martial Arts, Scuba, Body surfing, Cycling ETC.. not to forget doing Cement work and other heavy vocations.
Besides messing up my lower spine, etc with these pursuits I will be 54 years young in less than a month. Lying on the sand at the beach by the ocean with a ice cold umbrella drink in hand and other lighter activity's look much more appearing these days! LOL
