Feather Hawk

This hawk has a 17" oak haft with a hand forged leaf spring head that is 7 1/2". The haft has rawhide and sinew with steel pins and feathers. There is also a piece of antler through the bottom of the haft.

Beautiful work. I assume that part of the reason for the rawhide tie holding the head in place is
to keep the head from gradually splitting the haft when the hawk is used? Or am I just too worried
about this?

Thanks for the comments they are appreciated.
Dan, You are correct the head wrap does add strength. There are also 4 steel pins and epoxy holding the head in.
Randy, If this impresses you then I am feeling gooooood!!!
Tacsar, Thanks and I learned this way of attaching the head off of this forum. Both John Cohea and Ray Richard have used this method, or something similar.
Chris, This is a great compliment coming for you. I admire your hawks in a great way.
Wade
