This one just went out to a very patient customer. Making the guard on a full tang knife gave me some grief but I finally figured it out.

Sean, it looks like you figured it out real well. What a great looking knife! Great design and grinds and that Amboyna Burl is just plain beautiful. If I was your customer I would say that it was well worth the wait.

Thanks very much.

The problem I was having was in getting the slot for the guard perfectly square. My first attempt was using one of those clamps used to square up the shoulders for a guard on a hidden tang knife. I figured the part where the finger guard is didn't have to be that square, in the end that kept causing the guard to miss align. On my next attempt I used the same clamp but only to scribe two lines, one for the front of the guard and then my micrometer to measure out the width of the guard for the back of the guard. Then that went on my milling machine (yes the way I should have done it in the first place). Once things were square I milled out the area and used a sample guard to test the notch. After that I could drill the hole for a pin.

I cant remember the famous maker that once said "It takes as long to put a finger guard on as it does to make a whole nother knife". I feel that way too sometimes.
You did a nice job on this one Sean. The guard puts it in the next class I think.

Thanks very much everyone.

Bruce - It's funny at some point I remember thinking that I would get faster at making knives but the more I think I am getting better at knife making the longer it seems to take me. Especially guards and bolsters.
