I just got some from Jantz does anyone else use it. I have a glasss platten and it doesnt heat up but I heard a few things about this stuff . Can anyone fill me in . thanks kellyw

When it first came out, I thought it would be the greatest stuff in the world. I ordered several feet of it, put it on my platen, and after about 5 mins of grinding it was worn through in the area where I was grinding. I thought I had done something wrong and put a new piece on...same results. At first ot "wallows" out, then once you get into the canvas backing, things start heating up quickly. As it wears while your grinding, it creates a convex, that keeps changing as you grind and it wears.....which never allows you to keep grinding the same. Long story short, not long afterward I went to a glass faced platen, and have been using it ever since. In my opinion the graphite canvas is a good idea, but in reality it just doesn't work....at least not long enough to get a knife ground.

Thanks Ed I guess I should have asked you first. I have a glass platten already so what was I thinking

I'll occasionally use it when first hogging off material on a flat ground blade, but like Ed said it deforms quickly. If you use sharp belts and carefully control how you are grinding you can do just fine with a hard platen.
